What Gives You The Right?
Today in TIOB news, Sam mocked up as childish a cover for the demo album (that might be released at some point) as he could muster, then proceeded to record songs for it. Among these were the title track to the record: "The Drownèd Pyrophone" (that's ALT + 0232 to you, bucko), "Five Thirty-Nine", the seven minute song that is as close to Sam's heart as he will allow, and "No Regrets / Something In Me Died", a song that is reminiscent of the first few recordings we did.

The title today, "What Gives You The Right?" is a question that I feel in my heart a lot. What gives us the right to come in and start making music? What do we know about the industry that lets us do what we do? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Sam and Jordan (of whom I am the former) knew nothing about the industry or recording techniques. I had a little experience with recording my own stuff, but there was never any "mixing" or "mastering" (I still don't know what mastering is.) From ze vikipædia, "Mastering, a form of audio
post-production, is the process of preparing and transferring recorded audio from a source containing the final mix to a data storage device (the master); the source from which all copies will be produced (via methods such as pressing, duplication or replication". Oh. OK then. Anyway, we didn't know what we were doing. But all bands do things differently (I guess). Our recording process, when together, is basically to lay down the tracks one at a time so we can edit them separately and so people don't think we have a drummer (we do not). What we mean to do more of in the future is to work through tracks so we don't end up recording more demo versions than we have to. I generally dislike demos because no matter how they are worked, they will never be EP ready.

We didn't know we'd be recording. We didn't know we'd have screaming fans (were you aware of this? Some of our fans squeel like a fangirl at an anime convention when we show them new songs.) A quarter of our fan base visits our FB page every day. Whaaat? It's crazy. It's weird.

The Drownèd Pyrophone (Demo Tapes) will be coming to the internet soon. Get in on the action. We are working as hard as we can to have a good-sounding album out to you. If you still don't know, the debut album is The Drownèd Pyrophone and Other Tragic Tales, under our own label, 8 Billion Babies, which is a joke for later.

Off to record some more,
(the younger one)

P.S. Secret entries that only LJ friends can see are on the way. Are we friends?
